Sometimes a living room can look bare without a rug, even with stunning decor and beautiful furniture. If you haven’t considered a rug before then there are a few things you should know. Rugs can instantly transform the look and atmosphere of a room. A strategically placed rug can make a room appear stylish and modern, cosy and warm, traditional and elegant and much more. If your living room is lacking something then opt for a beautiful area rug or a smaller sized rug placed between the sofas and under the coffee table.
Darker colour rugs are very fashionable at the moment, and it’s a well known fact that black goes with everything. Choose a darker coloured rug to make your living room appear sophisticated and classy with a modern finish. If you have a nautical theme in your living room or are considering a nautical theme then a navy blue rug placed between the sofas can work wonders with this scheme, tying the whole room together.
A plain room with cream or white walls and solid coloured sofas can really benefit from dark coloured rugs. If you have light coloured flooring, a pale coloured carpet, light coloured laminate or pale wood panels then a dark rug can look absolutely amazing due to the striking contrast it creates. Sometimes it is a worry that light coloured flooring can easily look dirty or scratched, but a dark coloured rug can prevent or hide this effect. A dark area rug can protect the majority of your carpet or wooden floor whilst hiding stains and marks well without needing much upkeep.
The practicality of a dark rug isn’t its only benefit. You can utilise a dark coloured rug and use it to make the best of your room. It can only really enhance a room, making your decor stand out and giving a great modern or traditional effect depending on your current styles and schemes.
If you have sofas that face each other within your living room then a carefully placed rug between them can giving a stunning effect. Use a black or a dark coloured rug to highlight the sofas and coffee table whilst drawing the eye to the rug creating a focal point of the room. As mentioned previously, there are many good points to the dark coloured rug, it is stylish, it is practical and it can give a modern or traditional look depending on how you use it.
